So, what is Syndrome X anyway? Syndrome X is also known as Metabolic Syndrome. This is a syndrome that 47 million Americans have. Higher-fat, super-sized means, sugary drinks, sedentary lifestyle and, in general, inactive, over-stressed living is contributing to this problem. Symptoms include: hypertension (high blood pressure), high triglycerides, low HDL (good cholesterol) and insulin resistance (eventually leading to diabetes). All of these symptoms contribute to heart disease. What can be the visible clue that someone may have Syndrome X? Too much visceral fat (fat around the waist) can be an indicator that the other symptoms may be present. Just by reducing your waist measurement, you can drastically deduce your heart disease risk. What's an easy way to whittle the waistline? WALKING and increasing numbers of steps each day and decreasing calories are the keys to reducing waist measurement. An eventual average of 10,000 steps per day and a reduction of calories by 100 each day can help you lose wait, trim your waistline and improve those blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol readings. Make certain your physician is ware of an activity program before you begin. |
